1996 Shaw Riptide 35

San Diego, California

$150,000

The Riptide 35 is ultra-light, water ballasted planing sailboat that is capable of consistent speeds in excess of 20 knots. Weighing roughly 5500 lbs. and carrying 791 sq/ft upwind sail area, she has one of the highest sail area to displacement ratios you will ever see at 40.6. Downwind sail area is 1604 sq/ft bringing the SA/D to a whopping 80.6! Every system and piece of equipment has been replaced over the last 24 months (see list).

TooLoco was originally “Ripple” designed by Paul Bieker and custom built for Johnathan McKee Olympic sailing medalist. As Ripple, she podium placed in the Pacific Northwest for years and took the class win in her first Pacific Cup outing in 8.5 days averaging close to 260 miles per day! This phenomenal speed ability makes her perfect for the Transpac, Pac Cup and Mexico races. Once planing you are keeping up with the big boats (and correcting on them).

TooLoco is an incredibly nimble boat that is blazing fast off the wind yet holds her own upwind with the help of her sophisticated water ballast system with all of those controls at the helmsman’s fingertips. The water ballast system can also be used downwind for control and extra power when blast reaching.

The Riptide 35 has a spacious and comfortable cockpit, with a convenient smart layout, the main traveler is located just aft of the rudder post and is easily controlled by the helmsman or main trimmer, and the primaries forward. A large flush deck cooler is also centrally located for easy access to water and post-race celebratory beers!

Below decks you will find 6’ headroom throughout, 6’6” bunks port and starboard both fit with Lee cloths, forward is large Comfortable V berth. Located far aft are Port and Starboard quarter berths as well. The interior is open and functional and perfect for a family weekend with an enclosed head and V berth for the kids.

If exhilarating performance is what you’re looking for then look no further than Too Loco. She is in turnkey condition and ready to go!
