1988 Bristol Channel Cutter 28

Anacortes, Washington

$92,000

This BCC, built by the renowned Sam L. Morse Co., holds a distinguished place in the world of sailboats, hailed by Ferenc Mate as one of the "World's Best Sailboats." Its design is an homage to the English Pilot Cutters, showcasing timeless elegance and meticulous craftsmanship.  BCCs are coveted for their unwavering construction, boasting a full keel and a robust fiberglass hull, ensuring exceptional strength, stability and seaworthiness. Notably, a BCC achieved first place in the 1978 Newport to Ensenada Race, emphasizing its remarkable sailing performance.

Step aboard this classic beauty and immediately notice the thoughtful interior layout. Sea berths are strategically placed, and clever storage solutions abound. What truly distinguishes the BCC is the marriage of performance and aesthetics.

The accommodations are so intricately laid.  For example, the Portside Settee extends to create a 50" wide double berth.   The forward compartment serves as a workbench, hanging locker, shower, head and storage and is all trimmed in teak hardwoods.  With a generous 6'1" headroom, bronze ports, and classic touches, the interior exudes warmth and elegance.  The galley is intelligently designed, with a flip-up counter extension that provides more counter space than larger vessels. With a substantial water capacity and ample storage, you can easily prepare for extended journeys.

Sailing the BCC from the helm, you see the beauty and all the design details laid out in front of you that make this a special boat.  Excellent visibility and access to controls can be found in the cockpit.  A full-size traveler is mounted aft to give good control to the main.    The hard-to-find roller furling main system will make it easy to go sailing more often.

Telos has been well cared for by its current owner and has been kept locally since 2011.  This boat, along with just 121 other BCC’s was built out and finished inside and out by the legendary Sam Morse company, compared to others where only the hull and decks were completed by Sam Morse, leaving the interior to the owner to complete.  This is an essential distinction to both quality and value.

As an engineer and a woodworker, the owner has cared for her from systems to finish, inside and out.   Notably, before purchasing the boat, it was stored for nine years in covered storage, so it has seen less use than similar boats.   Updates and upgrades include new navigation gear, autopilot, plumbing, batteries, Dyneema lifelines, thru-hulls and seacocks, and wood refinishing (see below for details). Just before 2006, the boat was reported to have been in storage indoors for nine years, contributing to Telos's overall good condition.

The BCC is a sailboat, but it is also filled with beauty, craftsmanship, solid construction, and heavy displacement, making this a boat designed for all conditions. So whether you're an experienced sailor or new to sailing, the BCC offers an unforgettable experience.  Don't miss the opportunity to own this maritime gem and begin making new memories on the water!
