The famous Santa Cruz 50 designed by Bill Lee Custom Racing Yachts and built at the "Chicken Coup" in Soqual, CA.
These boats were at the spear tip of the "West Coast Sled" revolution in the 1980's and 90's. SC 50's have won every major offshore race on the West Coast and many races on the Great Lakes and Eastern Seaboard.
They are regarded as one of the "Index Boats" that other designs are measured to. The high standard of fiberglass work and build quality of the SC 50's has stood the test of time and most of them are still being sailed and raced today with podium finishes.
"ANOMALY" has been a NW boat under the same ownership for 25 years. She has done multiple Swiftsure's, Straits Of Georgia races, Puget Sound CYC and Seattle Yacht Club races. She was a fierce competitor on the racecourse, a great entertainer at the dock and a fast cruising boat for the owner's family and friends.
"ANOMALY" sports a 9.5 ft. draft keel for going to weather at higher wind angles than a standard SC 50 and has a newer, larger rig section for greater durability and less worry than the original SC 50 rigs. In short, gybes are less concerning when the breeze comes on.
Primary winches are big Lewmar 55 3 speeds for the genoas, the secondarys are Lewmar 48 2 speeds. A SC 50 races with a standard crew of 10, maybe 12 for heavy weather sailing and usually 6-8 for a Hawaii race.
She cruises with a crew as little as two. (single handing can get a little busy) She will very comfortably, accommodate 6 for overnights and 8 cozy if you need to.
The SC 50 goes to weather in the mid 7's to low 8's in as little as 12 kts of wind and high teens to mid 20's with a chute up in a breeze for exhilarating sailing.
Have you ever steered a 50' boat down a wave at 25 kts in the Ocean? Its not something you soon forget!
Pacific Cup and Transpac's are roughly 7-9 days with a race crew and racing sails.
If you're in the market for a yacht club race boat, a fast cruiser and downwind flyer that goes to weather or just a really cool boat, you owe it to yourself to view "ANOMALY" in person.
If you buy her now, you have just enough time to get ready for Pacific Cup.
FAST IS STILL FUN
Note: Of course, the famous molded in drink holders are in the combings.
