1930 Vashon 1930/2022 Converted Ferry

Gig Harbor, Washington

$320,000

Concordia is a VERY special example of what a thoughtful and tasteful conversion of a historic former ferry can be. Her current owner has spared no expense in transforming this once commercial steamship, but in Tacoma Washington into a luxurious retreat that welcomes friends and family to an experience unlike any other. Concordia has been gone through from stem to stern, and would be an incredible retreat for an entire family, can serve as an exquisite live aboard vessel, or even as a floating cabin or lodge capable of hosting up to 10 guests. Her flybridge features a 360 view on her wood deck that houses a fire pit and deck chairs to enjoy the surrounding area. Her upper deck is a complete owner suite / apartment that features a full galley, living room, full stateroom and head, breakfast nook and a loft in the pilothouse for reading or as a place to take a great nap. Her main deck boasts a full commercial kitchen with a gas stove, stand alone furniture in the salon, dining room with table for 10, full bathroom with shower. What makes her great on this deck is the 2 bedroom layout, with a private stateroom and an aft VIP stateroom that holds 2 bunk beds with full size berths below and twins above. This is a great family boat, or for a resort that wants that "special" accommodation for wedding parties or family events that won't be found anywhere else on the West Coast. Concordia would also make a great fishing lodge for guests to stay in and relax when not out enjoying some of the best fishing available in the world.

Concordia is truly a special boat, well suited for special purposes for friends and family. US Coast Guard Documented - she is a Documented Vessel.

From Wikipedia:
Concordia was built in 1930 at Tacoma, Washington.[1]

Concordia, popularly called the Conkie, was the last steamboat built on either Puget Sound or the Columbia, and was one of only four steamboats constructed on Puget Sound after 1920.

Concordia was built by the Vashon Navigation Company to replace the larger Vashona. The volume of business on the company's major route, from Tacoma to Quartermaster Harbor, had fallen off, and would not support the larger vessel. Originally Concordia was to be 62.5 feet (19.05 m), but John Manson, the company president, discovered that if the vessel were less than 65, the maritime regulations would permit the vessel to be operated with one less crewman. Four feet of hull were then omitted from the final design on the stern end, which gave the completed vessel a truncated or lopped-off appearance.

Operations:
Concordia was placed on the Tacoma-Quartermaster Harbor route. One of Concordia's commanders on the Tacoma-Quartermaster Harbor run was the well-known and popular Thomas W. "Billy" Phillips (1877-1949).

On August 2, 1936, the Tacoma Times newspaper chartered Concordia for the annual picnic of its 300 young newspaper carriers at Redondo Beach, Washington. This was part of a regular practice of the Tacoma Times of sponsoring events for their carriers.

In 1937 the vessel was refitted with a 90-horsepower diesel engine. In 1942, Concordia passed into the hands of Joe Boies and Irving Frank, doing business as Harbor Island Ferries. They then placed Concordia in service transporting shipyard workers across Elliott Bay from downtown Seattle.

In 1958 Concordia was operated by Horluck Transportation Company as part of their commuter and tourist fleet operating out of Bremerton and Port Orchard, Washington.
