One of the first big outboard center consoles, the Ocean Master 31 is a semicustom canyon runner sold factory-direct from facilities in West Palm Beach. Heavily constructed on a solid fiberglass hull, Ocean Masters have a reputation for being overbuilt. Originally launched in 1975, the 31 was designed to fish the canyons and compete with much larger sportfisherman of that era. Her decades of production since stand as real-world proof of her enduring popularity. The deck layout boasts 90 square feet of fishing space aft of the console as well as a casting platform forward—enough room for two or three anglers to work without bumping elbows.

With her generous fuel capacity, long runs offshore ranging from 300 to 400 miles are often the norm. The hull has been updated several times over the years, and Ocean Master builds the boat with as many as 20 layers of hand-laid fiberglass. In 1995 the deck was retooled, raising the sheer about 3 inches to form a deeper cockpit, and in 1998 the cockpit was completely redesigned with an insulated fish box forward and an in-deck livewell aft.

A solid offshore performer, twin 225hp Mercury outboards top out at 40 knots.
